On 19th December 2023, the Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler T.D., announced a public consultation on a draft Design Guide for Long-Term Residential Care Settings for Older People, which closed on 15th February 2024.
The public consultation allowed the Department of Health, and steering group partners, to hear the views of a wide range of stakeholders.
A total of 98 submissions were received, including from the families of nursing home residents, healthcare professionals, nursing home providers, nursing home representative bodies, researchers, the local authority sector, and advocacy groups for older people.
A public consultation report has been prepared by the Department of Health to reflect the feedback received. The public consultation report can be viewed on the Gov.ie website HERE.
